Bigs, Littles and friends of the program honored BBBSEC Founder the late Robert F. Moss at a recent Buffalo Bisons game. Our President and CEO David T. Hore and Board Member De Moss, wife of the late Robert F. Moss, accepted a $1500.00 check in Bob’s honor from the Buffalo Bisons. Our guests also enjoyed watching a Big & Little throw out the first pitch on the field!

An Evening With The Buffalo Sabres
In a joint program with Hasek’s Heroes (a program that provides a monthly skating and educational activity for kids and volunteers), a group of staff members from the Buffalo Sabres gave back in a BIG way by hitting the ice with some of the children that are currently waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister. For many of the children participating, this was their first time on ice skates! The Sabres staff helped kids get laced up, out on the ice and spent the evening learning a few moves and having a good time. Following the ice time with their Sabres Staff buddy, the kids enjoyed a pizza party and games. Great time had by all!
Welcome Summer Picnic
Over 125 guests that included Bigs & Littles, staff and our Board Members and their families enjoyed our Annual Welcome Summer Picnic this year. A wonderful barbecue meal was prepared by Mr. G’s Catering for our guests. New this year was a visit from the BlueCross BlueShield Healthy Zone Cruiser. The cruiser was stocked with hula-hoops, paddleballs and other fun equipment for our Littles to enjoy that promote exercise and wellness. Our Bigs and Littles also had a great time participating in our annual picnic activity favorites like tug of war, carnival games and crafts. A special thank you to the volunteers from Bank of America who donated their time to run all of these activities!
January is National Mentoring Month
As part of National Mentoring Month, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County will kick-off an effort on Monday, January 10th to find 50 Guys in 5 Days to sign up as new Big Brother mentors through a promotion with WGR-550 AM and Santora’s Pizza Pub & Grill. WGR-550 morning show personality and Big Brother Jeremy White, in a number of live and taped radio ads from January 10th – January 14th, will encourage male listeners to “join the team” by visiting the Big Brothers Big Sisters website and signing up. Big & Little Give Back
Throughout the year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County (BBBSEC) sees evidence of the positive impact our mentors have on their Littles. With the holidays upon us, there are even more opportunities for our Bigs and Littles to give back together as a team. This year, one match in particular really exhibited the holiday spirit along with precisely what BBBSEC hopes to achieve: Little Brothers and Little Sisters that “pay it forward” and give back to the community themselves. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County is honored to celebrate Danielle Lewis as this week’s featured Women Who Move the City Wednesday (WWMTC) Honoree! Serving her community has been how Danielle has chosen to pay forward the mentorship and support she received while developing as a young person. Danielle recently completed a three-year term on the Compass House Board of Directors, serving as Vice Chair and the Annual Fundraiser Chair. In the latter role, she led the transition from a traditional fundraising dinner event to a weekend brunch with the goal of building a new generation of donors for the organization.
