We are thrilled to share the success of our annual “FORE the Children Golf Tournament” held on Monday, July 29th, 2024, at the beautiful Brookfield Country Club. This year’s event was a resounding success, thanks to the incredible support from our community, sponsors, and tournament participants. With perfect weather and a stunning course, 110 enthusiastic golfers came together to enjoy a day of competitive fun and philanthropy. We are proud to announce that, through the generosity of our supporters, we raised close to $50,000. These funds will go directly towards providing mentorship opportunities for the many deserving children in our program.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is honored to celebrate Emily Felmet as this week’s Women Who Move the City Wednesday (WWMTC) Honoree!  A Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters since July 2010, Emily has created an amazing friendship with her Little Sister Quinnshona. Emily and her Little Sister have enjoyed a wide range of activities and firsts over their years together. Emily has been a consistent influence providing support and general guidance on life for her Little Sister as she has grown from a child to high school student! The Big Draft is here.  You’re on the clock! We’re thrilled to announce the Big Draft Recruitment Campaign! While the NFL is drafting its next players, we want to engage our community to help us draft the next generation of Bigs. This recruitment campaign stems from the BBBS partnership with the NFL Inspire Change Initiative. The goal of that program is to advance the national conversation and progress on social justice and to create positive change in communities across the country. Ford Friendship for BBBSEC Friendships!

BBBSEC received a donation of a Ford Flex through the Friendship Express program provided by the Ford Dealers of WNY. The vehicle will be used to transport groups of boys in our Partners for Youth program to different activities and events. Additionally, we will use it for small group outings for matches in our Site-Based and Community-Based programs. Thank you to the Ford Dealers of WNY for helping us broaden the horizons of our kids with a new set of wheels!

Big Mirror Mixer a Success!

The first mixer hosted by our Big Mirror Initiative Committee at The 2nd Cup Café in downtown Buffalo was a BIG success. Over 50 guests joined us throughout the evening to learn more about our initiative to provide a more diverse pool of mentors to the children in our program. Guests that evening included community members and representatives from several local corporations, political offices and professional organizations. Everyone enjoyed networking with like minded individuals and 9 guests signed up to become Bigs! Currently, 0ver 80% of the children waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister identify themselves as an ethnicity other than Caucasian. The goal of the Big Mirror Initiative is to provide a mentor, if the child wishes, of the same ethnic background.

Women Who Move the City Wednesday- Congrats Deborah Tangelder!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County is honored to celebrate  Deborah Tangelder as this week’s featured Women Who Move the City Wednesday (WWMTC) Honoree!  Deborah is the owner of The Perfect Gift & Clothing Boutique, located in historic Clarence Center. The storefront name, The Perfect Gift, was inspired by the Bible verse James 1:17 – “Every good and perfect gift comes from above.” Deb considers it a privilege to make a difference and that there is a purpose in her store that goes well beyond beautiful things. It’s about touching lives and hearts, and inspiring others. Since opening 14 years ago, she has used her business to help in multiple capacities as part of “The Perfect Gift Gives Back” project.
