Throughout the year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County (BBBSEC) sees evidence of the positive impact our mentors have on their Littles. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County is honored to celebrate Zandra Cunningham as this week’s Women Who Move the City Wednesday (WWMTC) Honoree! Zandra is a 17-year old entrepreneur who started her creative journey at the age of 9 mixing up lip balm in her home kitchen. She joined the Kids Biz Small Business Development Center at Buffalo State College and the rest is history. Today her Buffalo based company, Zandra Beauty, works out of a compliant production and distribution facility and sells her impressive line of products online and in retail locations. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County is honored to celebrate Lorna MacDonald Czarnota as this week’s featured Women Who Move the City Wednesday (WWMTC) Honoree! Lorna, an award-winning storyteller and author, has delighted audiences in schools, libraries, festivals and conferences throughout the United States, Canada, and Ireland with traditional and original stories since 1985. She is the founder and executive director of Crossroads Story Center, Inc., a not-for-profit reaching at-risk youth through story, music and art. The organization is dedicated to helping young people navigate troubled waters through the model of story by mentoring and forming productive adult/youth partnerships. 2012 Welcome Summer Picnic
On June 19th, 2012, BBBSEC held it’s largest annual Summer Picnic (ever!) for all of our Bigs and Littles. This year, the backyard of Harlem Rd. Community Center was transformed in to a “Field Day” for Bigs and Littles to enjoy the warm weather and spend time playing games. Following a picnic lunch generously provided by Phillips Lytle LLP, matches were able to play football, soccer, Frisbee, run sack races and even join a large game of tug-of-war where over one hundred Bigs and Littles competed against each other!
