Women Who Move the City Honorees Named!

Women-who-move-the-city_lockup-1024x474We are excited to share that after carefully reviewing 65 nominations, our Women Who Move the City Committee has selected the 2016 Honorees.

Congratulations to Elizabeth Callahan, Sister Mary Augusta Kaiser, Susan O’Sullivan, Maggie Shea, Shannon Sommer and Carmaletta Zandi.

Beginning March 9th, through April 13th, each Wednesday will be Women Who Move the City Wednesday. Listen to our Media Sponsor Kiss 98.5  to hear  Janet Snyder’s weekly spots celebrating one of our honorees.  Our website and our Facebook page will share a bio & photo of that week’s honoree so that you can learn more about the fantastic things they are doing in our community.

    We received a surprise, one-time gift of $20,000 from the General Mills Foundation in honor of General Mills’ 150th Anniversary. The company invited employees worldwide to nominate nonprofits in their local communities for the one-time gift. BBBSEC’s relationship with General Mills has grown over the last several years to include both support from the company’s foundation for BBBSEC’s Site Based Mentoring Program and increased employee engagement.     Big Brothers Big Sisters is honored to celebrate Emily Felmet as this week’s Women Who Move the City Wednesday (WWMTC) Honoree!  A Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters since July 2010, Emily has created an amazing friendship with her Little Sister Quinnshona. Emily and her Little Sister have enjoyed a wide range of activities and firsts over their years together. Emily has been a consistent influence providing support and general guidance on life for her Little Sister as she has grown from a child to high school student! In addition to her time as a Big Sister, Emily is also passionate about forwarding the agency’s mission.   • “Dough” Raised for Our Kids!

    BBBBSEC was one of fourteen charities that support children to receive a generous donation of $5,000.00 from Pizza Hut’s Raising Dough for Kids Charity. The “dough” was raised in the local Pizza Hut stores through contributions from their customers in change canisters and various other fundraisers throughout the year. The donation we received will be used to continue our successful Site-Based Mentoring Programs that match Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers with children at the Belle Center and Enterprise Charter School. 

  • Women Who Move the City Wednesday-Congrats Danielle Lewis!

    Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County is honored to celebrate  Danielle Lewis as this week’s featured Women Who Move the City Wednesday (WWMTC) Honoree!  Serving her community has been how Danielle has chosen to pay forward the mentorship and support she received while developing as a young person. Danielle recently completed a three-year term on the Compass House Board of Directors, serving as Vice Chair and the Annual Fundraiser Chair. In the latter role, she led the transition from a traditional fundraising dinner event to a weekend brunch with the goal of building a new generation of donors for the organization.
