Women Who Move the City Wednesday- Congrats Liz Callahan!

New headshotBig Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County and Media Sponsor Kiss 98.5 are excited to celebrate Liz Callahan as our first 2016 Women Who Move the City Wednesday Honoree!

Liz currently serves on the Board of Directors for Journey’s End Refugee Services and WNY STEM Hub. She is on the communications committee for the WNY Women’s Foundation and the event committee for the South Buffalo Community Table’s annual fundraiser and for Startup Grind. Liz also volunteers as a teacher for Junior Achievement of WNY.

Previously, Liz was the chair of B Team Buffalo and also served as sponsorship coordinator for TEDx Buffalo from 2012-2015. She was awarded the 2014-2015 Brenda McDuffie Award of Excellence for the Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals and the 2014/2015 Rising Stars award from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

A quote from Liz’s nomination explains the scope and impact her volunteerism has had on the people of our community, “Her work has brought communities out of their households, improved the lives of refugees, put food in front of the needy in South Buffalo and was the catalyst for the start of a community garden. It’s cut across the boundaries of the city geographically, economically and racially.”

Liz is the Workforce Development Manager at the Buffalo Niagara Partnership. In this role, she is responsible for leading the Partnership’s workforce development and education initiatives including the Buffalo Niagara 360 young professionals program that provides regular community engagement opportunities for its members.

A Buffalo native, Liz was raised in Riverside and currently resides in South Buffalo. She attended DaVinci High School and received her Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Purchase. Liz recently graduated from the Fellowship for Education Attainment through the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.  Her role models include her sister, Cati Callahan and the ever positive, Leslie Knope from the TV show Parks & Recreation.

  • Buffalo Bills Holiday Party

Twenty of our Little Brothers and Little Sisters enjoyed the Buffalo Bills Annual Children’s Holiday Party. The Jim Kelly Club at the stadium was transformed into a winter wonderland with trees, holiday scenes and even a working “Polar Express” train for the kids to ride!  The children also enjoyed having dinner with the Bills and the Jills.  After dinner, Santa arrived bringing each child a bag full of gifts!  A few of our kids were surprised when several of the Bills, working as Santa’s helpers, came riding out to give them their very own new bike! A BIG thanks to the Buffalo Bills players, the Jills, the staff and their families for making this wonderfully generous and memorable event possible.
