We are excited to celebrate our current Big & Little mentoring relationships during January and recruit new mentors to make a difference in the lives of children facing adversity. A mentor really can make a BIG impact. At the conclusion of the 2016-2017 school year, 92% of the children in a match with a Big Brother or Big Sister were promoted to the next grade level. Additionally, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County’s(BBBSEC) program outcomes indicated that these children maintained or showed improvement in their attitude towards avoiding risky behaviors and maintained or improved positive feelings regarding their ability to achieve future educational outcomes. It’s amazing what can happen when someone gives consistently just a few hours each month as a Big!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County offers two mentoring options for getting involved as a Big Brother or Big Sister. Join Us! Fore the Children Golf Tournament

BBBSEC’s Annual Fore the Children Golf Tournament, presented by PCB Piezotronics, will be held on Monday, July 27th at Transit Valley Country Club. Golfers will enjoy a wonderful day on a beautiful course and a golfer gift, lunch and beverages. A delicious dinner will also be served following golf and guests will enjoy a basket & live auction. Women Who Move the City Wednesday- Congrats Susan O’Sullivan!

Big & Little Potluck

As National Mentoring Month came to a close, our Bigs & Little celebrated their mentoring relationships on Saturday with a potluck lunch. Matches were asked to bring a dish that reflected their ethnic heritage or a favorite dish the pair likes to eat or make together. The recipes and the names of the “chefs” that created them were made into a booklet for each match to bring home. Twenty matches attended the event and enjoyed American, African American, Columbian, Puerto Rican, Italian and Korean dishes. A few unique items created included Sister Cookies and Sloppy Josès!

Women Who Move the City Wednesday- Congrats Liz Callahan!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County and Media Sponsor Kiss 98.5 are excited to celebrate Liz Callahan as our first 2016 Women Who Move the City Wednesday Honoree! Liz currently serves on the Board of Directors for Journey’s End Refugee Services and WNY STEM Hub. She is on the communications committee for the WNY Women’s Foundation and the event committee for the South Buffalo Community Table’s annual fundraiser and for Startup Grind. Liz also volunteers as a teacher for Junior Achievement of WNY. Previously, Liz was the chair of B Team Buffalo and also served as sponsorship coordinator for TEDx Buffalo from 2012-2015.
