Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie, Niagara & The Souther Tier seeks to bring people together. Our mission is to ignite, empower, and defend potential through one-to-one mentoring.

We live in a country where race and ethnicity have created systemic obstacles for people of color. Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks to remove obstacles for all young people by connecting them with a mentor, a caring adult who can be in their corner.

Unacceptable acts of violence like we have witnessed with Mr. George Floyd and current outbreaks makes our mission more important than ever.

Buffalo Bills Holiday Party

Twenty of our Little Brothers and Little Sisters enjoyed the Buffalo Bills Annual Children’s Holiday Party. The Jim Kelly Club at the stadium was transformed into a winter wonderland with trees, holiday scenes and even a working “Polar Express” train for the kids to ride!  The children also enjoyed having dinner with the Bills and the Jills.  After dinner, Santa arrived bringing each child a bag full of gifts!  A few of our kids were surprised when several of the Bills, working as Santa’s helpers, came riding out to give them their very own new bike! A BIG thanks to the Buffalo Bills players, the Jills, the staff and their families for making this wonderfully generous and memorable event possible.

Thank Your Mentor Day

Over 50 Big Brothers and Big Sisters and their Littles celebrated National Thank Your Mentor Day at a dinner, craft and activity night held at the Niagara Frontier American Legion Post. As matches arrived, they had their photos taken and printed. The pictures were then put into frames that our Little Brothers and Sisters created that night as a thank you gift for their mentor. Additionally, our matches enjoyed a terrific dinner by Mr. G’s catering and playing games. Again, a special thanks to all of our Bigs for making a difference and helping the kids in our program reach their full potential!

Women Who Move The City Wednesday- Congrats Marilyn Gibson Young!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County is honored to celebrate Marilyn Gibson Young as our first Women Who Move the City Wednesday (WWMTC) Honoree!  With a strong commitment to community, Marilyn began volunteering with the Stop the Violence Coalition in 2007 and has served as a Buffalo Peacemaker, Fundraising Committee Member and Vice Chairwoman. With a passion for working youth, and a heart that wanted to see a decrease in youth violence in the City of Buffalo, Marilyn brought together like-minded women over 5 years ago to create W. A.V.E -Women Against Violence Everywhere, an anti-violence organization that takes a proactive approach to help decrease youth violence by way of mentoring programs, events and activities. United Way Day of Caring

Every year, the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County holds a “Day of Caring” when corporate partners pick a project from a United Way affiliate and volunteer with that organization for one day. On Wednesday, August 15th employees from Ernst & Young joined BBBSEC and volunteered as a “Big for a Day”. Each employee was paired up with one child (their “Little”) who is currently enrolled with BBBSEC and waiting for their own Big Brother or Big Sister. Throughout the morning, each match played Beach Bingo, Shoe Scramble, participated in a balloon race and spent their time enjoying the nice weather and each other’s company.
