Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie, Niagara & The Southern Tier is grateful for WGRZ – Channel 2’s recent feature about our #EndTheWait campaign. The story sheds light on the 120 Littles currently waiting to be matched with a mentor — a majority of them being males of color.

In the interview, our Director of Programs, Brittany Washington, made an appeal, especially to men of color, to step up and volunteer to be a Big. Her message underlines the unique impact they can have on the lives of these young boys, offering them guidance, encouragement, and friendship.

“As far as diversity goes. You name it. We need it,” said Brittany. “Males and males of color are definitely a big push right now because we have so many children waiting, but we need women. We need people who identify as LGBTQ. We need people of different ability levels. You name it. If you’ve had some lived experience and you feel like you could give back to a child, we need you to be a part of our program.”

If you or someone you know can answer the call to become a Big, please consider volunteering and help us #EndTheWait.
