BBBS The BIG Draft 25 Event

The Big Draft 25 Header

As football fans across the country get ready for the NFL Draft and the start of a new year for the 32 teams in the league, OUR team is gearing up for THE BIG DRAFT! Our Big Draft campaign is a national initiative by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America to recruit 10,000 mentors in the 60 days leading up to the pro football draft. Just like the pros, we’re “drafting” a new class of Bigs to support young people in our community.

You might be aware of the urgent need for male mentors in our area. Currently, we have approximately 70 boys—the majority being boys of color— who are waiting to be matched with a Big. We hope these upcoming events provide an opportunity for potential volunteers to learn more about becoming a Big Brother and help us close the mentorship gap.

Gearing Up for The Big Draft Events

Thanks to the help of some wonderful community partners, we’re hosting two exciting events all about the Draft:

The BIG Combine: Wednesday, April 23, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Hofbräuhaus Buffalo
    • This kickoff event gives BIG Recruits a chance to learn about the role of a Big Brother, hear from current Bigs, start the enrollment process, and officially “declare” for the BIG Draft taking place the following night.
Suit Up for the BIG Draft: Thursday, April 24, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at King Urban Life Center
    • Against the backdrop of the NFL Draft, we’ll announce our 2025 rookie class of Bigs—with current Bigs doing the honors.
    • Little Brothers will even get fitted for their very own “draft day suit” by Dewitt Lee of St. Brian Clothiers! Plus, enjoy food, music, and NFL Draft coverage.

“We know how passionate this town and this area is about the Bills and football,” said our CEO Emily Mahoney. “Our organization has been fortunate to have a former Little Brother, Bills running back Ray Davis, as a champion and great example of the power of mentorship. Our Big Draft events will hopefully resonate with those spirited male fans we need to become part of our team and help the boys in our program.”
