The Power of Showing Up

The Power of Showing Up đź’š

Ten Years. One Friendship. Two Lives Changed. đź’š

Ten years ago, Erin said “yes” to becoming a Big Sister.

She couldn’t have known that a simple decision to volunteer would grow into one of the most meaningful relationships of her life.

Today, Erin and Julianna are celebrating a decade of friendship, trust, laughter, and unwavering support – proof that showing up for a child can change two lives forever.

Erin and Julianna were matched shortly after Julianna turned seven years old. Over the last decade, they’ve shared countless memories, celebrated milestones, navigated challenges, and built a friendship rooted in trust, consistency, and genuine care.

“What started as a volunteer opportunity quickly became one of the most meaningful relationships in my life,” Erin said.

Over ten years, Erin has watched Julianna grow from a shy little girl into a thoughtful, funny, and resilient young woman. Through every stage, one thing has remained constant: showing up for each other.

“What has kept me committed all these years is the relationship itself,” Erin shared. “Watching her grow into the person she is becoming has been a privilege, and no matter how busy life gets, our time together has always remained important to both of us.”

For Erin, being a Big has provided perspective, purpose, and a powerful reminder of the impact a caring adult can have simply by being present.

One of the most rewarding parts of the journey has been witnessing Julianna’s growing confidence and independence. For Julianna, having Erin by her side for the past ten years has meant having a trusted mentor, advocate, and friend.

Today, their match stands as a reminder of what is possible when a child has someone in their corner.

“I’m so grateful Big Brothers Big Sisters brought us together,” Erin said. “I hope our story encourages others to take that first step toward becoming a Big.”

It takes Little to be Big. And sometimes, it only takes one friendship to change two lives.

đź’š Here’s a Little Extra…

A decade of friendship can’t be captured in just one story. Watch Erin and Julianna share some fun facts, favorite memories, and the little moments that have made their 10-year match so special.
