Summer Reading participants are asked to write brief book reviews, each of which counts as an entry in a prize drawing. The more book reviews submitted, the better chances of winning. Submissions can be fiction or nonfiction books. There are some great prizes to be won. The book reviews can be submitted online.
The Foundry is a studio/gallery space for local artisans, started by Net+Positive, a Foundation with the mission of activating models of neighborhood prosperity through innovations in housing, entrepreneurship and the environment. On the second Saturday of each month, The Foundry hosts an evening of arts and music, with different acts featured each time. Fresh Produce is always on sale from local farms, too! It’s a great way to support local artists and musicians with your Little! The Foundry also hosts several workshops that might be of interest to you and your Little. You and your Little can enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of Canalside while playing a game. Old fashioned board games are available, as well as new ones. The best part is, you can rent them for free! You just need proper identification to sign the games out. Look for the Treehouse kiosk by the water! Presented by Treehouse Toy Store on Elmwood. The kiosk is open during the summer months.
Every kid loves a trampoline… now how about an entire building filled with them! Not only can you jump but you can also get involved with dodgeball leagues or fitness classes, at an extra cost. *Please note: You will need to access & print the Sky Zone waiver from their website and have it signed by the parent & ready to present when you attend. Queen City Ferry offers a water ferry service between Buffalo’s inner and outer harbor. Board the Queen City Ferry at the Central Wharf. The Ferry travels to the Outer Harbor, Erie Basin Marina and along the Buffalo River to Riverfest Park in Buffalo’s old First Ward district. Operations are daily from 12-8pm mid May through September. Round trip takes approximately one (1) hour. Tickets are priced at $8 for adults, $6 for children. Young Audiences of Western New York will once again be hosting regular summer shows and activities at Canalside and Old Falls again this summer! Every Wednesday 11am and 12pm at Canalside July 2nd through August 27th (44 Prime Street Buffalo, NY 14202) Every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 12pm and 1pm July 2nd-August 23rd (Old Falls Street Niagara Falls 14303) Dynamic and educational summer experiences that explore Western New York’s history with local artists in dance, spoken word, music, theatre, and visual arts. Fruit Roll-Up Sushi– A fun & tasty way to introduce your Little to new cuisine. What you need: Box of Fruit Roll-ups Jar of Marshmallow Fluff (green food coloring if you want to make it look like Wasabi) Rice Krispies Swedish Fish Directions: Roll out Fruit Roll-up, spread fluff, add Rice Krispies and Swedish fish. Roll back up and cut into regular sushi size pieces. To add more fun, purchase some “kid friendly” sushi like California or Avocado Rolls and serve as your main meal. Again, this is a great way to introduce new cuisine and make it fun!
