January is National Mentoring Month
As part of National Mentoring Month, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County will kick-off an effort on Monday, January 10th to find 50 Guys in 5 Days to sign up as new Big Brother mentors through a promotion with WGR-550 AM and Santora’s Pizza Pub & Grill. WGR-550 morning show personality and Big Brother Jeremy White, in a number of live and taped radio ads from January 10th – January 14th, will encourage male listeners to “join the team” by visiting the Big Brothers Big Sisters website and signing up. Women Who Move the City Wednesday- Congrats Cheryl Bird!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County is honored to celebrate Cheryl Bird as this week’s featured Women Who Move the City Wednesday (WWMTC) Honoree! Cheryl joined the Daemen College Center for Sustainable Communities and Civic Engagement in 2002 as Seneca Babcock Community Coordinator, was promoted to Director of Community Relations for the CSCCE, and in 2004 was asked to serve as the Executive Director. The CSCCE partners with three disadvantaged Buffalo neighborhoods, Seneca Babcock, the West Side and Broadway Fillmore, to address educational, economic and environmental needs. They sustain long term collaborations with community agencies in the three neighborhoods to benefit the communities, and Daemen faculty and students. Fore The Children Golf Tournament is a BIG success.
Our 7th Annual Fore the Children Golf Tournament, presented by Transitowne and PCB Piezotronics, raised over $55,000.00! 128 golfers enjoyed a wonderful day at Transit Valley Country Club that included skills contests, auctions and lunch & dinner sponsored by Independent Health. During dinner, Mark Ferm of Tronconi, Segarra & Associates was presented the Hedwig “De” Moss Leadership Award. Mrs. Moss created this award in honor of her late husband & founder of BBBSEC, Robert F. Moss, to recognize an individual for outstanding community support.
