factory-tour3BBBS of Erie County has been selected as this year’s charity recipients of a portion of the proceeds of Fowler’s Factory Tour, taking place on Saturday, October 8th and Monday, October 10th!

Advance sale tickets are $3 each and can be purchased by clicking here.  Tickets purchased on the day of the tour are $5 and are also available at the factory.

Self-guided tours of the factory begin hourly from 9:00 am – Noon and 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Guests will have a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how Fowler’s famous sponge candy and other sweet treats are made. There will be delicious samples and helpful folks to answer questions about the candy making process! The factory, located at 100 River Rock Drive in Buffalo, is right across the street from BBBSEC’s main office!

This is the 14th factory tour Fowler’s has hosted, and to date the company has donated approximately $25,000 to local charities from the tours’ proceeds.

Women Who Move the City Wednesday- Congrats Deborah Tangelder!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County is honored to celebrate  Deborah Tangelder as this week’s featured Women Who Move the City Wednesday (WWMTC) Honoree!  Deborah is the owner of The Perfect Gift & Clothing Boutique, located in historic Clarence Center. The storefront name, The Perfect Gift, was inspired by the Bible verse James 1:17 – “Every good and perfect gift comes from above.” Deb considers it a privilege to make a difference and that there is a purpose in her store that goes well beyond beautiful things. It’s about touching lives and hearts, and inspiring others. Since opening 14 years ago, she has used her business to help in multiple capacities as part of “The Perfect Gift Gives Back” project. Big Appreciation Mixer

In conjunction with the celebration of National Volunteer Appreciation Week (April 15th- April 21st), we recognized our volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters and Board Members at the “Big Appreciation Mixer”. The party was held at the historic Red Cross Mansion. Over 50 Big Brothers and Big Sisters and theirguests will enjoyed light hors d’oeuvres, desserts and drinks. A BIG Boat Cruise

A group of matches enjoyed a beautiful summer day aboard the Grand Lady docked at the Holiday Inn in Grand Island! The 2-hour cruise included points of interest on the Buffalo shoreline and interesting facts about Buffalo’s waterways. For many of the kids this was their first time on a boat. A special thanks to the Holiday Inn-Grand Island for generously donating the delicious lunch served while we were aboard!
