Let’s Celebrate…It’s National Mentoring Month!

January is National Mentoring Month. Created in 2002 by Harvard School of Public Health and MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership, the month focuses national attention on the need for mentors, as well as how each of us-individuals, businesses, government agencies, school and faith communities and nonprofits– can work together to increase the number of mentors to assure positive outcomes for children.  Learn more about how you can personally make a difference during National Mentoring Month.

    Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County and Media Sponsor Kiss 98.5 & Janet Snyder are excited to celebrate Shannon Sommer as today’s Women Who Move the City Wednesday Honoree! Shannon demonstrates a strong passion for helping others, especially children. Shannon is a volunteer Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County (BBBSEC). Shannon has been matched with her Little Sister, Christina, since May of 2014. She spends a lot of time with her Little Sister doing fun new activities, while providing support and general guidance on life. They enjoy cooking, swimming and doing crafts.   • “Dough” Raised for Our Kids!

    BBBBSEC was one of fourteen charities that support children to receive a generous donation of $5,000.00 from Pizza Hut’s Raising Dough for Kids Charity. The “dough” was raised in the local Pizza Hut stores through contributions from their customers in change canisters and various other fundraisers throughout the year. The donation we received will be used to continue our successful Site-Based Mentoring Programs that match Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers with children at the Belle Center and Enterprise Charter School. 

  • Bigs and Littles Welcome Fall at the Annual Harvest Festival

    On Saturday, September 21st, we celebrated the start of the fall season at our annual Harvest Festival, a day filled with laughter, fun, and togetherness. Our Bigs and Littles gathered to enjoy a host of autumn-inspired activities. From creative arts & crafts to a lively game of Bingo, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The energy on the field was infectious, with kids and their mentors playing football and participating in classic field day games.
