Shannon has been matched with her Little Sister, Christina, since May of 2014. She spends a lot of time with her Little Sister doing fun new activities, while providing support and general guidance on life. They enjoy cooking, swimming and doing crafts. Women Who Move The City Awardees Announced
On Thursday, April 10th, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County (BBBSEC) will host “Women Who Move the City” at Pearl @ The Webb. This new fundraising event will celebrate BBBSEC’s female volunteers, as well as, women who volunteer throughout WNY. Five local women, selected through a nomination process, will be honored during the evening for their outstanding commitment to our community. Let’s Celebrate…It’s National Mentoring Month!
January is National Mentoring Month. Created in 2002 by Harvard School of Public Health and MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership, the month focuses national attention on the need for mentors, as well as how each of us-individuals, businesses, government agencies, school and faith communities and nonprofits– can work together to increase the number of mentors to assure positive outcomes for children. Ford Friendship for BBBSEC Friendships!
BBBSEC received a donation of a Ford Flex through the Friendship Express program provided by the Ford Dealers of WNY. The vehicle will be used to transport groups of boys in our Partners for Youth program to different activities and events. Additionally, we will use it for small group outings for matches in our Site-Based and Community-Based programs. Thank you to the Ford Dealers of WNY for helping us broaden the horizons of our kids with a new set of wheels!
The BIG Give!
Our BIG Give campaign has officially kicked off! The BIG Give is an online fundraising effort of current Big Brothers and Big Sisters to help raise the funds necessary to move more kids off the waiting list into matches with Bigs of their very own. A Sweet Friendship: Fowler’s & Big Brothers Big Sisters!
BBBS of Erie County has been selected as this year’s charity recipients of a portion of the proceeds of Fowler’s Factory Tour, taking place on Saturday, October 8th and Monday, October 10th! Advance sale tickets are $3 each and can be purchased by clicking here. Tickets purchased on the day of the tour are $5 and are also available at the factory. Self-guided tours of the factory begin hourly from 9:00 am – Noon and 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Guests will have a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how Fowler’s famous sponge candy and other sweet treats are made.
