Barbershop Recruitment Event Planned

In an effort to recruit more male mentors, we will be holding our first barbershop volunteer recruitment event “Grooming Men of the Future” on Saturday, September 28th from 11am – 3pm at three barbershops located in the City of Buffalo. The event is an opportunity for men to stop by in a relaxed & familiar setting to learn more about becoming a Big Brother from Big Brothers Big Sisters fraternity partner Alpha Phi Alpha. The barbershops opening their doors that day to BBBSEC are Styles of Man on East Delavan and the Signature Cutz locations on Main Street and Grant Street. Explore Squaw Island!

On Saturday, September 14th from 12-2pm we have a trip to Squaw Island planned with the Buffalo Audubon Society.  This is a great opportunity for you and your Little to get out and explore the great outdoors. Did you         know that Squaw Island is a wetland and is the home to many different bird and animal species that you might not see other places in Western New York? Summer Memories Made at Tim Horton’s Camp

This summer 34 Little Brothers & Little Sisters attended Tim Horton Children’s Camp Kentahaten in Campbellsville, Kentucky. For almost all of the kids, this 10 day camp was their first time traveling out of state and participating in an array of amazing outdoor activities. Just imagine the fun and memories made in over a week of ropes courses, kayaking, swimming, disc golf and beach volleyball. In addition to the activities, the kids come back excited about the relationships created with their camp counselors and the new friends they have made from around the country! Verve Dance Studio’s Battle @ Buffalo: Under the Lights

Fore The Children Golf Tournament is a BIG success.

Our 7th Annual Fore the Children Golf Tournament, presented by Transitowne and PCB Piezotronics, raised over $55,000.00! 128 golfers enjoyed a wonderful day at Transit Valley Country Club that included skills contests, auctions and lunch & dinner sponsored by Independent Health. During dinner, Mark Ferm of Tronconi, Segarra & Associates was presented the Hedwig “De” Moss Leadership Award. Mrs. Moss created this award in honor of her late husband & founder of BBBSEC, Robert F. Moss, to recognize an individual for outstanding community support. 2nd Saturdays at The Foundry

The Foundry is a studio/gallery space for local artisans, started by Net+Positive, a Foundation with the mission of activating models of neighborhood prosperity through innovations in housing, entrepreneurship and the environment. On the second Saturday of each month, The Foundry hosts an evening of arts and music, with different acts featured each time. Fresh Produce is always on sale from local farms, too! It’s a great way to support local artists and musicians with your Little! The Foundry also hosts several workshops that might be of interest to you and your Little. Free Admission to the Erie County Fair!

The Erie County Fair is seeking volunteers to coordinate their Canned Food Drive as well as the Johnsonville Brats Big Taste Grill. All volunteers receive a voucher for free admission to the fair ($10 Savings) to use later that day or any other day after their shift.     Canned Food Drive Volunteers are needed to collect donations from fair patrons approaching admission gates; be energized to provide a smile and a “thank you.” Volunteer tee-shirts, bottled water, sunscreen, tent shelters for sun/rain protection and limited bench space will be available. Children under 16 are welcome to work the food drive when accompanied by an adult! Young Audiences of WNY at Canalside

Experience the excellent programming offered by Young Audiences WNY at Canalside! You and your Little can enjoy and learn from performances, workshops, and engaging presentations from artists dedicated to education through the arts. Some activities include the Erie Canal Traveling Museum workshop, Configuration Dance Creative Movement workshop, Ismail & Co Singing in Different Languages and the Stuart Fuchs Ukelele Show.
